Igli Tare faced a potentially turbulent summer following his recent dismissal from AC Milan, as he was placed under investigation by Albanian authorities on suspicion of money laundering and corruption. According to MilanNews.it, Tare’s name emerged in connection with an ongoing investigation by Albania’s Special Anti-Corruption and Organised Crime Prosecution Office, known as SPAK.
The former Milan sporting director reportedly became a person of interest during a probe initially centred on former Albanian deputy prime minister Belinda Balluku, who is facing accusations of violations in public procurement. This development marks a significant complication for Tare, who was dismissed by AC Milan just ten days prior as part of owner Gerry Cardinale’s complete overhaul of the club’s leadership structure, following the team's failure to secure Champions League qualification.
The sacking included head coach Massimiliano Allegri, CEO Giorgio Furlani, and technical director Geoffrey Moncada, and followed a season characterized by the club as an unequivocal failure. The Albanian investigation adds an unwelcome dimension to an already challenging period for the 52-year-old Tare, who has not yet responded publicly to the allegations.
