Newsroom
Orlando Pirates star Relebohile Mofokeng was set to join Union Saint-Gilloise in the Belgian Pro League. Mofokeng, 21, showed glimpses of his quality at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, despite not starting the first two games. However, he impressed in his cameo off the bench against Czechia and during the 1-0 win over South Korea, which raised interest in his services. According to reports from Nieuwsblad, St. Gilloise was close to reaching a club-to-club agreement with Pirates.
The Belgian club offered Mofokeng a four-year deal, and the attacking midfielder was expected to travel straight to Belgium from the US to complete the move. St. Gilloise had been tracking Mofokeng for a while and was keen to finalize the deal to beat competition for his signature. Last season, Mofokeng made 27 appearances for Pirates, scoring 10 goals and assisting a further eight, contributing to the club’s first Betway Premiership title in 14 years. Overall, he had made 125 appearances for the Buccaneers, scoring 29 times and providing 31 assists.
Shawn Bishop, former Mamelodi Sundowns Head of Academy, works as Head of Methodology at the Belgian side, while Chris O’Loughlin, a former Orlando Pirates assistant coach, serves as the club’s Sporting Director. Saint Gilloise won their first Jupiler Pro League title in 90 years in the 2024/25 season and repeated this success last season, which qualifies them for the third qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League in the upcoming campaign.
