French Cyclist Paul Seixas Wins Flèche Wallonne

In a stunning display of talent, 19-year-old French cyclist Paul Seixas has won the Flèche Wallonne in his debut appearance at the event. Seixas triumphed over Swiss rider Mauro Schmid and British cyclist Ben Tullet, showcasing his exceptional skills on the infamous Mur de Huy, a steep climb that has challenged many seasoned competitors.

Seixas's victory is particularly remarkable as he becomes the youngest winner in the history of this classic Belgian race, breaking a record that stood since 1936. "This wall is so horrible; you know you’re going to finish completely exhausted," said Benoît Cosnefroy, who finished fourth and was visibly impressed by Seixas's dominance. The young cyclist's ability to maintain composure and strength under pressure has drawn comparisons to Pogacar, with many experts predicting a bright future for him in the sport.

Seixas, riding for the Decathlon CMA CGM team, expressed his disbelief at his victory, stating, "It's incredible; it's a huge win. Just last year, I was watching this race on TV, and now I’ve won it in my first participation." His win marks him as the eighth Frenchman to claim victory in the Flèche Wallonne, the first since Julian Alaphilippe in 2021.

Looking ahead, Seixas is set to compete in the prestigious Liège-Bastogne-Liège, where he will face off against Pogacar and Belgian star Remco Evenepoel. "It’s going to be a different challenge, but I’m ready to fight for the best possible outcome. Today shows that I’m in great shape," he remarked, hinting at his confidence and readiness for the upcoming race.
