Khalil Discusses Morris's Unexpected Appearance

Khalil Ben Youssef, co-coach of Kaizer Chiefs, discussed the surprising appearance of striker Tashreeq Morris during their recent victory over Sekhukhune United. The 31-year-old made his first Betway Premiership appearance of the season by coming on in the last five minutes to score his inaugural goal for the club.

Morris capitalized at the far post, tapping in an empty net from Glody Lilepo's cross, giving Chiefs a 1-0 lead in the 86th minute. Another substitute, Mfundo Vilakazi, secured the victory with a penalty in the 90th minute after Lilepo was fouled in the box. The win enabled the Glamour Boys to return to African competition, participating in the CAF Confederation Cup for the 2026/27 season, having achieved a total of 51 points—their best season in six years.

In a post-match media interaction, Ben Youssef explained the timing of Morris' introduction, emphasizing the striker's hard work during training. "Morris is one of our players; he’s working very hard in training sessions," said Ben Youssef. "We were waiting for the right moment, and I think this was the right moment to introduce him to the team." He further noted the importance of the game and acknowledged the behind-the-scenes efforts in preparing Morris, thanking the fitness coach and his staff.

Kaizer Chiefs will next travel to KwaZulu-Natal to face AmaZulu and will conclude their season with a home match against Chippa United.
