NFF Partners with UNICEF for Campaigns on Polio and Girls

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) commenced talks to establish a Memorandum of Understanding aimed at enhancing the welfare of the girl-child. On May 13, 2026, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, General Secretary of the NFF, welcomed a UNICEF delegation led by Lone Hvass, Chief of Communication, Advocacy and Partnership, at the NFF Secretariat. The discussions focused on potential collaborations targeting various issues, notably polio eradication and the discouragement of child molestation.

Hvass emphasized the goals of engaging Super Falcons players to promote awareness about polio and address other critical matters impacting children. "We have had successful collaborations in the past with Nigerian football stars, who serve as powerful role models in these campaigns," Hvass remarked. "Families and children listen when trusted figures address these issues."

Dr. Sanusi voiced his support for UNICEF Nigeria's child-development objectives. He acknowledged the devastating effects of polio on children in Africa, including Nigeria, and expressed appreciation for efforts to protect children from polio and related diseases.

He added, "Football is an exceptionally powerful tool to drive positive campaigns. We will explore various pathways for enlightenment once we establish the memorandum of understanding and finalize our collaborative areas. We can also involve players from our U20 and U17 girls national teams in these important campaigns."

The meeting included Susan Akila and Mr. Samuel Kaalu, both Communication Specialists from UNICEF, as well as NFF officials Dr. Ademola Olajire, Ruth David, Rajan Zaka, Alizor Chuks, and Enebi Achor.
