President Tinubu approves Nigeria’s hosting of CAF Events

President Tinubu approved Nigeria’s proposed hosting of the 48th Ordinary General Assembly of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and this year’s CAF Awards Ceremony on May 12, 2026. The announcement took place at the ongoing Africa Forward Summit in Nairobi, Kenya, and followed a meeting between President Tinubu and CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe. The meeting was attended by Nigeria’s Foreign Affairs Minister Mrs. Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, President of Nigeria Football Federation, Ibrahim Musa Gusau (MON), Special Adviser to the CAF President, Amaju Melvin Pinnick (OFR), and CAF Acting General Secretary, Samson Adamu.

The 48th CAF Ordinary General Assembly is set to occur in October 2026. This assembly will convene prominent figures in African football, including presidents of CAF’s 54 Member Associations, representatives from the six zonal unions, and senior officials from across the continent. Also, the CAF Awards is an annual event that recognizes and celebrates outstanding performances in African football, providing a glamorous atmosphere for the participants.
