Vilakazi Joins Highbury FC as New Coach

Former AmaZulu and Chippa United head coach Vusumuzi Vilakazi has been appointed as the new coach of Motsepe Foundation Championship side Highbury FC. Vilakazi, affectionately known as Kanu, was previously in charge of Chippa United but was dismissed three games before the end of last season. His coaching experience includes stints at Usuthu, Richards Bay, and Golden Arrows, alongside a role as Technical Director at Chippa United. On Friday, June 26, 2026, Highbury FC announced the appointment of the 43-year-old coach. In their statement, the club expressed its delight at welcoming Vilakazi as their new head coach. "Highbury FC is delighted to announce the appointment of Vusumuzi Vilakazi as the club's new head coach," the club stated. "Following positive and productive discussions, the club has reached an agreement with coach Vilakazi, who will lead the team into the upcoming season." The club further noted that Vilakazi brings a wealth of experience, strong leadership, and a clear football philosophy that aligns with Highbury's ambitions. They expressed confidence that his expertise would be pivotal in moving Highbury FC forward as they pursue success in the Motsepe Foundation Championship. Additionally, the entire Highbury FC organization extended a warm welcome to coach Vilakazi, wishing him success in his new role. They stated, "Welcome to Highbury FC, coach Kanu." Highbury FC finished last season in sixth place in the Motsepe Foundation Championship, ten points shy of the promotional playoff spots.
