Torino Targets Paraguay's Orlando Gill Following World Cup Heroics
Newsroom

Torino expressed admiration for the heroics of Paraguay goalkeeper Orlando Gill following the team's elimination of Germany from the World Cup. The Serie A club approached San Lorenzo in hopes of acquiring Gill's signature after his standout performances during the tournament.
According to transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio from Sky Sport Italia, Gill's exceptional performances have led Torino to make a solid offer this summer. However, acquiring him may prove challenging, as his remarkable showings on football's biggest stage have likely increased his market value. Reports suggest that any transfer deal could now require a fee of at least €5-6 million, but this investment could prove beneficial for the Granata.
Gill celebrated his 26th birthday just weeks prior to these developments and has attracted interest from clubs including Besiktas and Valencia. His current contract with San Lorenzo runs until December 2027, following his move from a Paraguayan sister club in 2024. Despite having only made his senior debut for Paraguay in September 2025, Gill has already earned 10 caps and has been instrumental during this World Cup run. Aside from an opening defeat to the USA, he managed clean sheets against Turkey and Australia and emerged as the hero in a penalty shootout win against Germany in the Round of 32 match held on June 29, 2026, at Boston Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts.
