Ruben Amorim Becomes Top Candidate for AC Milan Coach
Newsroom
Ruben Amorim, the former head coach of Manchester United, has emerged as a leading contender for the managerial position at AC Milan, according to a report by BBC Sport. Amorim has been without a job since his dismissal in January after a difficult 14-month tenure at Old Trafford.
Despite reports distancing the 41-year-old from a potential return to Benfica, the club where he played for six years and made 154 appearances, discussions have taken place between Milan and representatives of Amorim. He is reportedly high on Milan's list of candidates to succeed Massimiliano Allegri, who was released in May after the team failed to qualify for the UEFA Champions League.
During the season, Milan was nine points ahead of the fifth place when they secured a win against Inter in March; however, they managed to win only three of their last ten matches, accumulating just 10 points and finishing one point behind Como, who clinched the final Champions League spot on the last day of the season.
Also mentioned in connection with the vacancy is USA coach Mauricio Pochettino, alongside former Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner who has just enjoyed success in the UEFA Conference League final against Rayo Vallecano. However, Ralf Rangnick, another ex-Manchester United manager, has ruled himself out of consideration after extending his contract with Austria until 2028.
Should Amorim take charge, he would confront his former club in a pre-season match, as AC Milan is scheduled to play Manchester United in Wroclaw, Poland, on August 15, just one week prior to the commencement of the Premier League.
