Tennis: Game, set, and match at Roland-Garros 2026! On Sunday, the second Grand Slam tournament of the season announced its verdict in Paris. Mondial Sports provided coverage of the final day, as well as a review of the 125th edition of Roland-Garros.
The absence of Carlos Alcaraz, the defending champion, cleared the way for Italian Jannik Sinner, the world number one, who aimed for his first title in Paris. However, Sinner was hindered by physical issues in the high temperatures at the beginning of the tournament and was eliminated in the second round. Despite Sinner's disappointing performance, Italy still had a representative in the finals. The 2026 edition featured a strong showing from Italian players, with three reaching the second round and an impressive semifinal matchup between Arnaldi and Cobolli. This served as a consolation for Italian fans after another summer without a World Cup.
The women's tournament also garnered attention, highlighted by the remarkable performance of Polish player Maja Chwalińska, who became the first qualifier to reach the final of the Paris Grand Slam, where she faced Russian Mirra Andreeva. Broadcasters for this final day included professional French player Pauline Payet, journalist and Mondial Sports consultant Alice Froment, and RFI’s special correspondent Éric Mamruth at Roland-Garros.
